Like a million years ago…or 10 years anyway

I’m aware that this place has been dead quite today, but there’s a reason for that. First part of the day we spent in town, and after that I’ve been buried in solder, watch parts and tools. A fellow graphic designer got in touch a few weeks ago and asked if I could make him a pair of earrings. And since the mission was somewhat a challenge I simply couldn’t say no. I’m hopeless that way.

So today I’ve put together the base for one of them and almost finished the other. They are not identical…more the opposite of each other, which makes it easier in a way. On the other hand, one of them has been really tough to shape, so that’s where the challenge came from.

There are no real piccies of them yet, but there will be when they’re done and ready to ship.

Last night I got busy trying to find an mp3 I’ve had for a long time, but that somehow seemed to have vanished into thin air during one of my moves. And while I was going through all my backups, mostly old ones, I found a lot of other things as well. It’s always like that…you bump into all this old junk that you for some reason saved while you deleted the things you “should” have saved :p At least I’m hopeless that way.
There was a lot of photo’s among the folders and what you see in this post is me about 10 years ago with permed hair’n'stuff :p I haven’t had a perm since, but I’m in a desperate need for some kind of hair style again. Hair’s been growing like weed lately and next week I’m going to pop in at @Gee_Rocks and let her roam around with a scissor or two. I doubt I will get curly like this ever again, but you never know.

Oh…and I did find that mp3 after a lot of digging around. And of course it was where I least expected it to be :p It’s always like that.
But now it’s way past midnight (again) and it’s bedtime while there’s still a small chance that I will go to sleep :) Back tomorrow :D

Hanging upside down

Well, this is the behind of my son and upside down is Alexander, my grandson…hehehe  And it looks like they’re having a really good time :D I snatched more photo’s from this occasion, but there is a day tomorrow too with posts that need some sort of decoration :D

Talking about decorations, I spent some time this afternoon fiddling with the layout in here, but didn’t come up with anything useful at all. Somehow it’s more difficult when you are about to make a theme for yourself, possibly because you can do whatever you want. And it’s the lack of limits that renders me completely blank. So I will use what you see around here until further notice. Normally when you make a theme for a personal blog you find out a bit about who the blog belongs to and their interest. And what the blog is about. Well, that’s the problem here with me. I’ve got too many interests and I could most likely fill the entire space in the background here with illustrations that has to do with painting, cooking, baking, music, photography, design, Steampunk and so on. I might turn it into a daily project and paint one thing a day in here and later see where it all ends up :p

Anyway…it’s bedtime soon and I really need to get some rest. Slept for a couple of hours in the morning today (again) and  I’ve had no naps at all, so hopefully I will be out cold. The last hour I’ve smashed Daddy Longlegs. Had a window open next to the desk and somehow they managed to find their way in in spite of the blind being closed and everything.

Time to catch Mr Sandman before he’ll flip Robin around with that brick and forgets about me again :p
Back tomorrow :D

Weekend doings

It’s Saturday all day long today and both of us here are cleaning up the place a bit. It looks like a hurricane went through and left nothing but shattered pieces behind :p At the same time I’m hoping to find that wifi card I’m looking for…however, most of the time when you are looking for something it will hide until you give up and start looking for something else :p So the hopes are not all that high. But it’s really silly since we’re not exactly living in a 25 bedroom castle or anything :p

Anyway…while I’m waiting for the laundry to get done, I thought I’d put up some information about those cookies samples I posted about the other day. So that will be an ongoing project during this Saturday. There’s been a lot of chasing around for ingredients and in some cases I’ve had to rewrite recipes to adapt them to the UK. Some flavourings and decorations you simply cannot find around here.
But so far I’ve got 7 different sorts of samples that I will send out. Six of them are cookies and biscuits, and then there’s one that is more of a soft brownie. It will hopefully make sense when I’m done with that page ;)

Then it’s translating some names…heh Sometimes you can translate literally and then there are other times you can’t. And at times it’s almost impossible to find a name for a cookie that is equivalent to the original name. However, I don’t want to change them either since most of these are classics. At least they are elsewhere :)
There will be pictures of course. And a lot of information for the sake of allergies. The same goes for food additives. Some recipes I can change to fit pretty much anyone, but it’s difficult to remove nuts and almond when it is one of the main ingredients.

I can’t promise any sugar-free or gluten-free products since those things barely existed when these recipes were invented. After a while I might exchange ingredients so I can sell to customers who cannot eat sugar and who are intolerant to gluten, but it might take a while. I won’t promise anything.
What I can promise is that there won’t be anything artificial in the products I have to offer. I’m so against additives in general that I use nothing but butter and other natural ingredients. No margarine will make it into my fridge, that’s a guarantee.
But more about that later.

Now I’ve got a bedroom to vacuum and some laundry to take care of. I will be back laters :)
And don’t forget to have a great Saturday :D

I had the brightest of ideas…and then the daylight ruined it all

I’ve ended up in a silly circle where I sleep every second night…with a bit of luck. Sometimes I’ve got two sleepless nights in a row or even more, but most of the time it’s been every second night.

So last night while I was laying in bed, staring in the ceiling and listening to Robin while he sounded like he was operating his very own sawmill, I had this great idea. Or so it seemed at the time. Because it’s really weird how reality gets twisted when you’re exhausted and hurt while you see the night go by and the sun begin to rise at the horizon.
It all make sense right there and then. During the early morning hours I had some rest and when I woke up at 9.30 AM the idea was back in my mind again, however, in the daylight it wasn’t such a great idea after all. And it’s not like I was on a territory I know nothing about when this “bright” illusion happened around 2.30 AM. It was probably more a matter of a short circuit between the two brain cells I still have left :p

At 10 AM I already knew that the service my two brain cells agreed about while I was trying to find a comfortable spot in bed, was rubbish and that there was no need for it. But for a few hours I was completely blind.
Today I’m just glad I didn’t wake Robin to tell him about my “great” idea too :p He asked what it was when I told him about it this morning, but it’s really too embarrassing to describe. So it will be my own little secret mistake :p

The reason for my awake adventures during the night was my neuropathic pain really. For a couple of days now I’ve had what seems to be a toothache, but most of the time it’s not quite that simple. I don’t even need to have a broken tooth to get a toothache, even though this time I suspect that it’s a wisdom tooth that is messing about. I know that one of them was broken even when it first saw the light of day. But, today it’s a bit better and toothache usually won’t just leave like that. However, the chronic pain can change or temporarily go away after I’ve had some rest, so that’s why it’s most likely to be my peripheral nervous system that is playing games with me again.

I’m still kinda tired and feel a bit “hungover” even if there’s been no alcohol involved :p Since it’s Saturday I’m taking it easy and I think I will write a bit about Zynga’s new game “Frontierville” a bit later. Or maybe not. Depends on how those two brain cells are getting along. They’re fighting about the next trip to Bahamas right now, so I might just have one left by the time they’re done ;) And it takes at least two of them to write about any game :p

The bottom line of all this is that sometimes it’s for the better not to act too fast when you get what seems to be a great idea. Which is something that I really need to remember. Sometimes I can be a bit too spontaneous and think that my ideas are the best on the planet…which is not always true :p  So I really need to remember this if it happens again. And especially when it’s in the middle of the night :p

A new green drink with a bit of bite

I didn’t get much sleep last night, so around 7 AM I went back to bed for a power nap. And power naps I’ve never managed to learn how to do, so I was tossin’n'turnin’ for about 2,5 hours, barely getting a regular nap. Which resulted in a zombie like state when I got out of bed again. And that’s pretty much where I’m at still and probably will be for the rest of this day.

However, I’ve spent a while in the kitchen to make me another green juice drink since I had my second cup of morning coffee. And this time I’ve done a different kind of juice. It’s still very green, but not as bright as the one I’ve had for the past 3-4 days.
This one is also less sweet and a bit spicy, so unless you really like veggies, and especially the bitter taste of leaf veggies, this is not for you. I could have added an apple just for the sake of sweeten it a bit, but I wanted to try it out this way first. So I will finish this pitcher and then we’ll see how I’ll make it next time.

This time I used the following:

2 cucumbers
6 tomatoes
2 hand full of fresh spinach
1 big red bell pepper
3 spring onions
Half a hand full of fresh coriander
4 radish

Mixed it all, drained it in a cloth like I’ve done with the other juice and the result was a dark military green liquid.
The onion and the coriander is what adds most of the flavour, but the cucumber and tomato is there as well. Different, but definitely not disgusting in any way. That is, if you like veggies and can handle a bit of bite :p

If anyone want to try this out I suggest you start with the cucumber/apple/celery/spinach juice that I got started with. That way you’ll slowly get use to the flavours, and you can even get rid of one apple at the time and add more spinach to that juice before you dive into the recipe above.
I will drink this for as long as I still have tomatoes now….so I will make this tomorrow too before I go back to the sweeter version again. Since I still have an infection I need all the onion I can get :p The original recipe also included a clove of garlic, but I’m careful with garlic since my tummy tend to hate me after only a small amount of it.

And I love coffee in the morning, but I have to admit that a glass of this wakes me up a lot faster than any coffee on the planet :)

Well, it’s time to get something done today. Our connection comes and goes so we’ll see how active I will be online.
In any case, don’t forget to have a great Friday :D
