The toxic and non-toxic me

As some of you know I mixed a green drink on an every day basis for quite some time a while back. Cucumber, celery, fresh spinach and apples filled the fridge here and both the blender and the juicer never had a chance to get dusty.
Then one day my digestive system put an end to it. In a way. I had signs that I got way too much fiber and in the beginning I stopped making that green juice all together, deciding that I should start again when the symptoms vanished and mix that drink once every second day instead. I also switched the fresh spinach for some lettuce and used only half the amount of celery.

When you start a detox it takes a while before you notice any changes and can point them out, but when you stop a detox or change the pattern of it you notice pretty much straight away when your body is storing all that poisons stuff again. And it happens pretty quickly. At least it did for me.
What vanished with that green juice was a lot: my skin changed, especially in the face, and deep wrinkles became much more shallow; no dizziness and no headaches like before; easier to focus and less lethargic; more energy overall; my body temperature stopped going up and down like a yo-yo and my mood became a lot more even. No big ups and downs at all. I also lost weight that I honestly have no clue where it came from to begin with, and I lost it in spite of eating in the same way and move just as much (or little) as before.

Now it’s been a few weeks ago since I had to fall back and make this drink once every second or third day and the different is huge. I’m always tired, my body temp flips from normal to high within seconds (and no, it’s not menopause…not yet), the hair’s gone dry and brittle and the dizziness is back again.
When it comes to the weight it’s difficult to say, but I’m not losing anything, that’s for sure. Except from clothes that fits me :p

In the past I never believed in detox, I always put it in the same box as witchcraft and ghosts :p Neatly tucked away and labeled :p
But these past few months changed my mind about that bit and now I’m almost ready to believe in ghosts and witchcraft too. Almost :pp Seriously, it has an amazing effect on the system and it made me realize how food can make a difference.
I mean, I’ve read about how fast food affects children and teenagers, and that it will make them both moody and difficult to deal with. And most food these days, not just fast food, is full of additives of all kinds and it affects grownups as well, no question about that.

So now I need to get my hands on a nutritionist or similar. The nurse I talked to at the docs office a few weeks back knew less about this than I did, so she wasn’t especially helpful. She handed over brochures and that was pretty much it. I could have picked those up in the waiting room :p
That NHS here won’t provide any preventive health care I already know…but they should since they are the ones who slap people around for being obese and sick. How can anyone stay healthy if they won’t teach people how to eat?? It’s just stupid.

I might just continue with this drink and slowly upper the amount I’m drinking in a week to see if my body will adjust better that way. It might have gone in to a shock or something since I literally poured it full off all that good stuff on an every day basis from day 1 :p
In any case, I might have to find a better substitute for that fresh spinach than lettuce. The green veggies is what makes a difference. Well, the outer layer on the cucumber is actually great for detoxing as well, just as the celery and the apple…but I might have to add something else that is all green to kick my system in the right direction again as it seems.

But it really makes a huge difference to drink that juice on a daily basis…that I can assure you.

Fuzzy picture of the day

The fuzzy creature in the photo in this post is my grandson…heh His mom posted this photo a couple of days ago and said in the post that it’s becoming more and more difficult to get a clear picture of him. He’s moving around too much and too fast :D Seems like the video camera is a better option these days :p
Give it another 10 years and he will be very camera shy. At least that’s usually the case in that age.

Not a lot happens around here today. Robin was out of bed early, about an hour after I went to sleep or similar and it still feels like it’s weekend. Have to force myself to make this into a Monday.
Outdoors there’s scattered clouds…big clouds…and it’s not particularly warm today. Or hot anyway. It’s just perfect :D Which means that I should do some gardening before the sun sets. We’ll see how that goes.

And I’ve got a cyst just below my neck (almost between the shoulder blades) that I’m not sure what to do about. I should have had it removed a long time ago, but the thought about someone cutting in my back is not very pleasant. On the other hand, neither is the cyst :p
That won’t happen today anyway and will take a bit of planning.

Time to make this lunch into an afternoon and get something done around here.
Might be back a bit later :)

I had the brightest of ideas…and then the daylight ruined it all

I’ve ended up in a silly circle where I sleep every second night…with a bit of luck. Sometimes I’ve got two sleepless nights in a row or even more, but most of the time it’s been every second night.

So last night while I was laying in bed, staring in the ceiling and listening to Robin while he sounded like he was operating his very own sawmill, I had this great idea. Or so it seemed at the time. Because it’s really weird how reality gets twisted when you’re exhausted and hurt while you see the night go by and the sun begin to rise at the horizon.
It all make sense right there and then. During the early morning hours I had some rest and when I woke up at 9.30 AM the idea was back in my mind again, however, in the daylight it wasn’t such a great idea after all. And it’s not like I was on a territory I know nothing about when this “bright” illusion happened around 2.30 AM. It was probably more a matter of a short circuit between the two brain cells I still have left :p

At 10 AM I already knew that the service my two brain cells agreed about while I was trying to find a comfortable spot in bed, was rubbish and that there was no need for it. But for a few hours I was completely blind.
Today I’m just glad I didn’t wake Robin to tell him about my “great” idea too :p He asked what it was when I told him about it this morning, but it’s really too embarrassing to describe. So it will be my own little secret mistake :p

The reason for my awake adventures during the night was my neuropathic pain really. For a couple of days now I’ve had what seems to be a toothache, but most of the time it’s not quite that simple. I don’t even need to have a broken tooth to get a toothache, even though this time I suspect that it’s a wisdom tooth that is messing about. I know that one of them was broken even when it first saw the light of day. But, today it’s a bit better and toothache usually won’t just leave like that. However, the chronic pain can change or temporarily go away after I’ve had some rest, so that’s why it’s most likely to be my peripheral nervous system that is playing games with me again.

I’m still kinda tired and feel a bit “hungover” even if there’s been no alcohol involved :p Since it’s Saturday I’m taking it easy and I think I will write a bit about Zynga’s new game “Frontierville” a bit later. Or maybe not. Depends on how those two brain cells are getting along. They’re fighting about the next trip to Bahamas right now, so I might just have one left by the time they’re done ;) And it takes at least two of them to write about any game :p

The bottom line of all this is that sometimes it’s for the better not to act too fast when you get what seems to be a great idea. Which is something that I really need to remember. Sometimes I can be a bit too spontaneous and think that my ideas are the best on the planet…which is not always true :p  So I really need to remember this if it happens again. And especially when it’s in the middle of the night :p

I’ve got a new toy :D

It’s Tuesday all day long today and at least over here it’s a very hot and sunny one. Almost unbearable if you ask me. We been into town, done some shopping (empty and dusty fridge) and had lunch.
Above is my grandson, trying to eat porridge all by himself since he’s a big boy now…heh There’s both porridge and milk everywhere, but it looks like it’s both interesting and fun. Besides, there’s always soap and water, so who cares eh? :D
I believe his mom got this on video too, but at least last night she was a bit too tired to mess around with YouTube, so I think she will upload it either today or tomorrow or similar instead. Depends on how busy she will be with the gentleman above ;)

And I’ve got myself a Juicer today :D As some of you already know I started to make my own veggie/fruit juices a couple of weeks ago or so. And I still am. The mixer is good, but I have to extract the juice from the pulp manually afterwards and that’s really messy. So a Juicer is preferable.
Since I have no clue for how long I will continue doing this I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a Juicer either. Not even £30 actually :p And the stronger the engine is, the bigger the price tag of course.
So today when we were at Tesco to do some grocery shopping I ran into a Juicer that fit me perfectly :D It’s a 400 watt baby, perfect in my little kitchen and it was only £5…hehehe Can’t get it cheaper than that, that’s for sure. If I was to pay £60 + for one I would feel a pressure to use it daily as well, and the fun would be gone. With this one on the counter top in the kitchen I can relax and know that if it breaks it won’t be expensive to exchange for a new one. And there’s no big loss if I don’t use it daily either.

However, I will use it daily so that will put it to test and see what you’ll get for £5. It says in the instruction leaflet that you shouldn’t run it for more than a minute at the time, and allow it to stand for a couple of minutes afterwards if you do, so I assume that the engine goes warm very quickly. That’s what you get since it’s not all that powerful. But for me who is making my green love juice out of 2 cucumbers, some celery, an apple and some fresh spinach every day, it’s perfect. No risk that using it like that will burn the engine or anything :)

And I’ve also bought the ingredients for my strawberry cake. Found some strawberries at the marketplace in Chesterfield today and man, they are absolutely delicious. Sooo sweet and nice :D Hm…strawberry juice…LOL Nah….I’ll save those for the cake ;)

Two fans are trying to stir the air in here a bit. The front door is open, the window next to the desk is open and so are pretty much every other window. But we needs some clouds, me thinks.
Now it’s time to pick up my coffee mug from that black hole they call the Micro :p I keep forgetting it there. Didn’t get a lot of sleep until early this morning, so I’m exhausted. Might take a little nap a bit later.

Be good and don’t do anything I wouldn’t….whatever that would be :p

A new green drink with a bit of bite

I didn’t get much sleep last night, so around 7 AM I went back to bed for a power nap. And power naps I’ve never managed to learn how to do, so I was tossin’n'turnin’ for about 2,5 hours, barely getting a regular nap. Which resulted in a zombie like state when I got out of bed again. And that’s pretty much where I’m at still and probably will be for the rest of this day.

However, I’ve spent a while in the kitchen to make me another green juice drink since I had my second cup of morning coffee. And this time I’ve done a different kind of juice. It’s still very green, but not as bright as the one I’ve had for the past 3-4 days.
This one is also less sweet and a bit spicy, so unless you really like veggies, and especially the bitter taste of leaf veggies, this is not for you. I could have added an apple just for the sake of sweeten it a bit, but I wanted to try it out this way first. So I will finish this pitcher and then we’ll see how I’ll make it next time.

This time I used the following:

2 cucumbers
6 tomatoes
2 hand full of fresh spinach
1 big red bell pepper
3 spring onions
Half a hand full of fresh coriander
4 radish

Mixed it all, drained it in a cloth like I’ve done with the other juice and the result was a dark military green liquid.
The onion and the coriander is what adds most of the flavour, but the cucumber and tomato is there as well. Different, but definitely not disgusting in any way. That is, if you like veggies and can handle a bit of bite :p

If anyone want to try this out I suggest you start with the cucumber/apple/celery/spinach juice that I got started with. That way you’ll slowly get use to the flavours, and you can even get rid of one apple at the time and add more spinach to that juice before you dive into the recipe above.
I will drink this for as long as I still have tomatoes now….so I will make this tomorrow too before I go back to the sweeter version again. Since I still have an infection I need all the onion I can get :p The original recipe also included a clove of garlic, but I’m careful with garlic since my tummy tend to hate me after only a small amount of it.

And I love coffee in the morning, but I have to admit that a glass of this wakes me up a lot faster than any coffee on the planet :)

Well, it’s time to get something done today. Our connection comes and goes so we’ll see how active I will be online.
In any case, don’t forget to have a great Friday :D
