Angels & Demons Gingerbread House
Well…I’ve made ginger snaps today…about a 100 of them or so. After a couple of hours I got tired of cutting out small pieces of dough that didn’t seem to make much difference for the amount of it that was left, so I made a gingerbread house. It’s about 3 years ago since I made the last one and that was a bit more classic in the way it looked than the one I did today. This wasn’t even meant to be from the start…not the house and certainly not the figures on it :p
But it all started with Robin saying “It’s a shame you don’t have a small Spiderman for it…” and I agreed. Would have been nifty to glue a Spiderman to the facade or something. And I didn’t have any small Santa’s either, otherwise that would have been perfect.
So I grabbed the angels I had left after making the Steampunk ornaments for the tree a couple of years ago. I’ve got 6 of them left, so I placed those at the bottom of the “skyscraper”, surrounded by icing.
Now, since Robin is doing RPG he’s got a lot of characters laying around in boxes…and that’s where the “demons” comes from.
I put the biggest of them on top in the middle and then surrounded him with smaller figures that all looks more or less like they stepped out of Hell :p The tricky bit was to take the pictures actually…LOL
The icing is a mix of egg whites, icing sugar and distilled vinegar in case anyone want’s to know. The walls on the house itself are “glued” together with the same mixture as the decoration, which makes the entire house eatable. Of course, if you try to chew on the figures you’ll get problems with your tummy, that I can promise :p
If I do this again at some point I will plan it a bit better though. This was a fast decision that I made about halfway after I began to cut the parts for the “skyscraper” :p So if there is a next time I will make sure that I’ve got all the figures I need and want to include.
Robin is probably better at telling you who these characters are btw…if they have any particular name of course. He was also the one who said that it looked like an Angels & Demon Gingerbread House. Demons on the roof, angels at the bottom….should be the opposite though…shouldn’t it?
Then again, neither of the two belong on a gingerbread house to start with, so I guess it doesn’t matter too much.
The house I made for Robin’s boys about 3 years ago probably should have been something like this instead of the regular classic gingerbread house. But back then it was a long time ago since I made any gingerbread house at all, so I was focused on getting all the pieces right etc. Which in return killed the creativity.
All the images in this post has got a larger copy if you click on them for details.
As I said above, it was tricky to take pictures of…icing get very white and it doesn’t play along with white balance on the camera very well. Besides, the red cloth in the back had a way of making everything look pink, the icing included :p
Now, with a bit of luck this will last for a couple of weeks. Gingerbread houses tend to get soft and fall apart after a while due to humidity, so I’m hoping it will be intact by Christmas too. It was a tad too early to make, considering that bit, but oh well.
I might make more ginger snaps before Christmas, so you never know. Might make another house as well…anything can happen and usually do when I get bored.
And making ginger snaps is probably among the most boring kinds of baking I know of.
Hope everyone had a great day :D

I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll munch your gingerbread house all up. Nom nom nom :-D
Love the little demons.
lol…you’ll end up with a horrible tummy ache if you eat all that :p And the demons are nifty. Not sure I’ll give them back to Robin afterwards…hehehe
gingerbread dungeon! gingerbread dungeon!
That is just so cool! I think having the angels on the bottom and demons on top gives it more character, like the demons are sneaking up on them. Not that I’m on the side of the demons mind you, lol! But it gives way to more imagination from that perspective. I love it :-)
