Leake’s Return – level 2
Painting old stone and old bricks, paint and plaster that is falling off seems to be such an casual thing to do, but it’s not. It’s time consuming and boring…LOL
It really is :p Although I know that the more detail I put into this, the better it’ll be in the end, there’s always a temptation hanging around to simplify it even more than I already do. However, that would kill the “soul” of this old place, so I’ve decided to go halfway and make sure I do it some justice.
The basic coloring is done on the left wall, and right now I’m working on the stone and bricks around the entrance and those two big windows. As soon as that’s done I will clean up the sketch a bit and close those gaping windows up with those boards I used in the first level. And I will do the same with the door opening in the left wall.
The ground needs to be painted since there’s no floors left in any of the rooms in this ruin. And of course it will need a front door. The front door I will do in two versions – closed and opened. All depending on where in the game you are.
That door will be a part of the game not just in the beginning, but all the way throughout, so there will be other views of that entrance too later on.
Then of course there’s the second version of this room (and all the others). I’ve started that bit too, but those layers are invisible in the picture above. In about the same hight as where the pink paint ends above the door in the left wall is the level where the ceiling would be. The holes are still visible in the actual ruin. And I might close the room up in the second version, both with a ceiling, proper windows and all…or I might just paint parts of it.
The second version will have very little to do with what this ruin once used to look like however. Since the house itself goes back to Medieval times it also gone through many fashions of furniture and other interior details, and I won’t even try to drag anyone through the history of that bit :p But it is originally baroque.
But…this is the state of the second level at this very moment :)
The first level is still not done, but I’m alternating between the two. That way it won’t get too boring either ;)
One can only paint a certain amount of stone and bricks in one day, ya know :pp
