Technology nightmare

AlexanderThis is Alexander faking a cough to get more attention…LOL When I first saw this picture I thought he was just making faces or something, but his mom explained that he’s trying to get that piece of extra attention and nothing else :p

Anyway…this day has been rotten so far :p Almost no sleep last night and my body hates me :p And Windows 7 is beginning to show it’s real ugly face. Guess you could say that the polite period is over…haha

What’s happening is the troubleshooting. The compatibility check for software works great and it can run a lot of applications that was not even meant for Windows 7 by using settings that came with earlier version of Windows.
But the hardware bit is really rotten. Same goes for the networking bit.

I’ve tried during the past hour to reinstall our Lexmark printer. We kinda need it for the business since I use it for invoices, proposals, contracts and much more. But…for some stupid reason and no matter how fresh the drivers are for the darn thing, Windows keep telling me that I don’t have a printer installed. When I try to troubleshoot the darn thing, it just shrugs and doesn’t know what to do.

And that’s how the troubleshooter acts for the network as well when I can connect to the WiFi, but not past the router.

Lexmark is not without blame in this mess though. They are still working on launching Windows 7 compatible drivers for their printers, and you won’t be able to buy a printer from them with Win7 drivers installed until sometime in 2010. In theory I should be able to use the Vista driver in compatibility mode…but that’s only a theory. The printer spooler won’t start automatically, and once I’ve got that service started, any print jobs sent from this computer seems to vanish into thin air. There’s just no glue. I’ve followed all instructions how to use the Vista driver with Win7, and look how far that got me :p

So at least on my machine, Windows 7 is far from perfect, but still more stable than Vista ever was. And the networking bit…well, as long as Microcrap can’t clean up their act and get away from the NT networking system in their OS, it will be a darn mess. With all the self-detection and other fancy things they offer, configuration of a WiFi should be near to automatic, except from the authentication of course.

Rant over…I think.
