The toxic and non-toxic me

As some of you know I mixed a green drink on an every day basis for quite some time a while back. Cucumber, celery, fresh spinach and apples filled the fridge here and both the blender and the juicer never had a chance to get dusty.
Then one day my digestive system put an end to it. In a way. I had signs that I got way too much fiber and in the beginning I stopped making that green juice all together, deciding that I should start again when the symptoms vanished and mix that drink once every second day instead. I also switched the fresh spinach for some lettuce and used only half the amount of celery.

When you start a detox it takes a while before you notice any changes and can point them out, but when you stop a detox or change the pattern of it you notice pretty much straight away when your body is storing all that poisons stuff again. And it happens pretty quickly. At least it did for me.
What vanished with that green juice was a lot: my skin changed, especially in the face, and deep wrinkles became much more shallow; no dizziness and no headaches like before; easier to focus and less lethargic; more energy overall; my body temperature stopped going up and down like a yo-yo and my mood became a lot more even. No big ups and downs at all. I also lost weight that I honestly have no clue where it came from to begin with, and I lost it in spite of eating in the same way and move just as much (or little) as before.

Now it’s been a few weeks ago since I had to fall back and make this drink once every second or third day and the different is huge. I’m always tired, my body temp flips from normal to high within seconds (and no, it’s not menopause…not yet), the hair’s gone dry and brittle and the dizziness is back again.
When it comes to the weight it’s difficult to say, but I’m not losing anything, that’s for sure. Except from clothes that fits me :p

In the past I never believed in detox, I always put it in the same box as witchcraft and ghosts :p Neatly tucked away and labeled :p
But these past few months changed my mind about that bit and now I’m almost ready to believe in ghosts and witchcraft too. Almost :pp Seriously, it has an amazing effect on the system and it made me realize how food can make a difference.
I mean, I’ve read about how fast food affects children and teenagers, and that it will make them both moody and difficult to deal with. And most food these days, not just fast food, is full of additives of all kinds and it affects grownups as well, no question about that.

So now I need to get my hands on a nutritionist or similar. The nurse I talked to at the docs office a few weeks back knew less about this than I did, so she wasn’t especially helpful. She handed over brochures and that was pretty much it. I could have picked those up in the waiting room :p
That NHS here won’t provide any preventive health care I already know…but they should since they are the ones who slap people around for being obese and sick. How can anyone stay healthy if they won’t teach people how to eat?? It’s just stupid.

I might just continue with this drink and slowly upper the amount I’m drinking in a week to see if my body will adjust better that way. It might have gone in to a shock or something since I literally poured it full off all that good stuff on an every day basis from day 1 :p
In any case, I might have to find a better substitute for that fresh spinach than lettuce. The green veggies is what makes a difference. Well, the outer layer on the cucumber is actually great for detoxing as well, just as the celery and the apple…but I might have to add something else that is all green to kick my system in the right direction again as it seems.

But it really makes a huge difference to drink that juice on a daily basis…that I can assure you.

Playdate

Thought I’d gather some photo’s of my grandson from the week that’s been. He’s been on a playdate, he had his 10th tooth and he’s got more energy than all the grown-ups he’s surrounded with have together :pp His mom was trying to do some art on the computer the other day while Alexander was still awake, but that ended the way you can see in the last two photo’s :p As soon as she sat down at the computer he did everything he could to get her attention, and when he did, he didn’t want it…hehe Typical :p

It was pretty much the same with my son (and Alexander’s dad) when he was in that age. And when he was 3 years old he managed to get a canvas filled with wet oil paint off the easel, move it into the bedroom and put it down on the bed – with the canvas and wet paint facing down on the bedspread :p He’s never been that close to death before or after that…haha
Guess it’s needless to tell you that the bedspread was ruined and both that and the canvas went in the trash.

Anyway…yesterday I spent all day in Dreamweaver, putting together a layout. It’s not ready yet, but there’s no panic so I’m taking it easy. No one’s gonna do it for me, and I work best under pressure any way. It’s cloudy/sunny/rainy/windy today. And muggy. We need some thunder again.
I spent the night staring in the ceiling when I didn’t toss and turn. For some silly reason I keep forgetting that there’s a pair of pants (trousers if you’re in England) that I simply cannot wear, and I should have thrown them away a long time ago. But somehow I always forget. And I hate throwing out clothes that fits and that are in a good condition.
But this time they will have to go.
The problem is my skin. I’ve got hypersensitive skin because of the Neuropathic pain and the wrong kind of friction (not sure if there’s any right kind of friction, but anyway…) will set my skin on fire. Or so it feels. The bed sheets feels as if they were made out of sandpaper and it’s really painful, which makes sleep almost impossible.
Although, this time it’s been limited to the back of my right thigh, but now I’ve got about 2-3 weeks of this to look forward to. Yippiii! :p

Those pants ARE going in the trash this time. Can’t for the life of me understand why this is so difficult to remember. Most people tend to remember pain even if they can’t remember anything else, but I guess it passed me by since I’m always dealing with pain somewhere on my body on a daily basis.

But…that’s life sometimes.
Now I need to continue my day here. Hope your Friday is a great one :D

We just might be moving…

I know I probably shouldn’t write anything about this since it seems that leaving this place where we live today is about as easy as leaving Hotel California in the song :p But we went to Bolsover to take a look at a flat we found in an ad in the local paper the other day.

It’s a quite street close to the football field where Robin’s boys usually play their matches, which would be perfect for that reason alone. But the place in itself was probably one of the nicer flats we’ve seen lately. The owner restored it all the way through. Carpets are clean and not too bad when it comes to colors and pattern :p In other words, they haven’t been there since the 1970′s.
There’s two bedrooms upstairs, one of them being a bit bigger than the other. The bathroom on the second floor is a family sized one with new tiling on the walls. I’m not usually a fan of tiles on the walls in bathrooms since it’s so easy it’s done badly, which means that it’s a mold trap…but it’s a lot easier to keep clean than painted walls, that’s for sure.

On the ground floor there’s two reception rooms and a kitchen. The kitchen is not big and there’s no room for a table in there, so one of the reception rooms would be a dining room. The other reception room is rather small, but enough for us two :) Especially since we don’t spend a lot of time in a room like that anyway :p

It’s not often kitchen’s got a stove and a fridge when you rent around here, but this one did. And it also had a combined washer/dryer, which is even more rare. Hopefully they works as well as they looked :p

And in the back it’s got a small garden that no one really taken care of, at least not the last tenant. The landlord cleaned it up pretty good though, however it will need a bit more weeding before it looks decent. There’s plenty of storage space both indoors and in two sheds in the back. One shed is newly built and the landlord used that for an office when he lived there himself :)

The neighbors are all above their 60′s, so no loud music or anything…which suits us just fine :) When you lived like this for a few years you get use to the silence and appreciate it.
Robin called the landlord on his cell phone this morning but had to leave a message on the voice mail since there was no reply. Hopefully he’ll get back to us with some good news. He had more potential tenants who came over for a look on Friday, so you never know. It might already be gone.

But it’s worth a try. I really don’t want to spend another winter in this darn place. The black mold is taking over and it’s not healthy in any way. The landlord is old and arrogant, so if you ask him to fix something he either forgets it or pretend that he’s forgotten. And of course it’s not allowed to cost anything either. Pretty much everything is bought used and the only thing we had brand new since we moved here almost 6 years ago is a new shower. Other than that it’s all been half way done and cheap.

So I rather pay another £100 a month and know that things will get fixed when they should.

The landlord we talked to on Friday wants a tenant for at least 6 months, preferably a year, and I know that they advice you not to jump onto long term tenancy, but it’s not that fun to move around. So we would most likely rent one year at the time in that case, at least the first year.
We’ll see what happens. If things goes according to plans we should be able to hand over the two first rents on Monday or Tuesday this upcoming week, and then start moving in the end of next week. But that would surprise me more than if it didn’t happen, sadly to say.

Other than that I’m alone and unsupervised today. Robin is at his mom’s helping her with the Sunday dinner. She’s got another chest infection probably due to the rain we had for the past couple of months. But also because she’s smoking like a chimney. She over 70 and Robin is getting worried about her. Can’t blame him…my dad was about the same and he passed away when he was 74 from a chest infection that caused his lungs to fill up with fluid. Robin is taking her to the doctor tomorrow and she will most likely get some antibiotics as usual. And an appointment for a lung x-ray later. They do that every year pretty much.

Anyway….I might finish my version of Neytiri today…or I might not :p The kitchen won’t clean itself and unfortunately I don’t possess any magic so I can convince the dishes to fix themselves either :( Would be nifty though :D
Don’t forget to have a great Sunday :D

So who’s tagging my photo’s on Facebook?

I don’t know if this is a new bug at Facebook or if it’s spam, but lately I’ve had a lot of email notifications that my photo’s been tagged. And the members in all these notifications are total strangers to me. In the beginning I did a search on the name that was in the notification, but after a couple of times I realized that it was a dead end. When you get more than 200,000 hits on a person you don’t know, it can be any of them…IF the notifications actually were real.

There’s a lack of information in these emails that Facebook is sending out when someone is tagging a photo. And the security on my Facebook account is set as high as it can be, so you can’t really tag any of my photo’s unless you are in one of the lists of friends I’ve got who can SEE my photo’s.
But anyway…this is what these email looks like:

Melissa requested to tag one of your photos. As the owner of the photo, you need to approve this request.

To approve this request, follow the link below: “link to approve”

Thanks,
The Facebook Team

And below those lines there’s a couple of lines from Facebook who the notification was meant for and their own address in Palo Alto. And that’s it. No link to the photo in question, no link to Melissa (Kirk) or anything. And it would be nice to know who she is, how she got access to my photo’s to begin with and what photo she wants to tag. But then again, as I said earlier, it might just be a scam…but a darn good one if it is. There’s nothing in the details of the email that suggests that it was sent from any other place than Facebooks own servers.

If that is the case, Facebook really need to look into their security – again. Or at least give a bit more information in the notes they send out. I never put up anything on Facebook that I feel uncomfortable sharing, but I still like a certain privacy when it comes to people I don’t know.

The day that vanished

The photo’s above were taken yesterday by Alexander’s mom, and it seems that he’s back to his old happy self again :)

This day just passed right by me and I have no clue where it went. I’ve been deep down in Grids and CSS during the afternoon, so time just vanished. My brain is all mushy and it wouldn’t take much for me to fall asleep in this chair right now :p However, I better save that for later or the night will get so darn boring.
Robin took off earlier during the afternoon so I’ve been alone and unsupervised most part of the day. We had both rain and sun, and it just can’t make up it’s mind.

I was suppose to put up those surreal paintings for sale today, but then this Grid and the CSS got in the way, so they’re still not up for sale. Might be able to squeeze that in tomorrow with a bit of luck :p
Anyway…I just wanted to post the photo’s above, so I’m just ranting.
Hope your day was/is a good one :D
