Tech savvy ghosts from the 16th century
There’s something fishy going on with this painting of level 2. And it’s either me who is losing my mind entirely along with any skills to paint, or I’ve got a ghost painter, with the emphasis on “ghost” :p After all, we’re living on the grounds to this ruin, and there’s suppose to be a lot of strange things happening up at the Hall itself at night…so maybe Earl Leke doesn’t approve to my little project. You never know :p Would be interesting to see a ghost of an Earl from the 1700′s handle my pen and tablet however…haha…can’t deny that :p
In any case, this looked like poop when I opened it today. I’ve had to redo the sketch layer and some of the painting itself too. I was kinda hoping that any appearance of ghosts around here would be limited to people complaining about footsteps outside in the night when there’s no one there and that sorta thing, but obviously we got a tech savvy ghost too….LOL
This happened yesterday morning as well btw…so it’s not the first time. If things are out of order tomorrow as well, I’ll post it and show you. Will grab a screen dump of the original file before I close it down today…heh
Leke’s Return – scene 2 again
For a brief moment earlier I got stuck downloading Photoshop brushes…which is about as addictive as downloading fonts. And they take a lot of space too, so it’s really not a good thing. But…some of them will be useful for the sake of painting these scenes.
Today I’m working on the second level of this game. Still painting concrete, stone and bricks, but it’s slowly coming together. I’ve even done some graffiti today :p On this particular place inside the ruin, the walls are actually clean from that sort of thing, but it exists in other locations. So the graffiti I’ve added is pure fiction.
There’s still a lot to do on this level, but at least I’ve found the light and the tone that it will have in the end. Lotsa stone and bricks to paint still though.
Other than that it’s been a boring day today. I’ve spent a few hours on my own (painting) while Robin been out with his mom so she could do some grocery shopping. He’s back home now though so it’s time to get something to eat. Late lunch or early dinner…or both :p
Hope your day is a good one :D
Last staircase effort – for now
If you don’t see much difference between this version of the staircase above and the one I posted yesterday…don’t worry. You haven’t gone crazy and I’m not posting the same image twice :p What happened is not much…or might not seem to be much…but it still taken a few hours to do. Weird how these things work out at times…or not :pp
I don’t dare to mirror this right now in fear that my screen might explode…or that my head will go the same way…haha (When I want to see what a drawing or a sketch looks like with “fresh” eyes…I mirror the whole thing in Photoshop. That way my brain is correcting the way I see the image I’ve been staring on for way too long and I can see what it “really” looks like…)
So what I’ve done tonight is the following:
The pillar under the staircase has been redone…or ready…depends on how you see it I guess. I’m seriously thinking about replacing that completely with a column or something more sturdy. Would be a bummer if the stairs came down in the middle of the game ;) Besides, it looks like a overgrown table leg right now, and that’s not good :p
So it might change a bit later.
Colors changed slightly again…shadows have been added…and removed…and to be honest I just can’t make up my darn mind about the walls and what I want to do with them. In original they are cream or off white…but that’s the 1919 version of the place…not the 1700′s version. And I haven’t got a slightest clue (as usual) where I got the idea that this room had oak or mahogany paneled walls back when Leke was the owner. Maybe it is the pictures I’ve seen from the old reception room…I don’t know.
No matter my silly ideas, this WILL be done sooner or later. I might put it aside for a bit and give it (and me) some time before I continue to finish it. But it’s getting there. Slowly.
And now it’s 12.37 and it’s almost bedtime :) Outside it’s windy and rainy, and during the evening this place’s been shaking from it. Feels like the wind is grabbing the roof and threaten to rip it off.
Anyway…with a bit of luck I should be back tomorrow…with or without the roof :p
Be good, behave if you have to and have a great evening/night :D
That staircase
Since it is officially Tuesday here in the UK I thought I’d make the first post for today :p Or maybe a belated last post for Monday is more appropriate since I haven’t been to bed yet.
Instead, I’ve been fiddling with this staircase. It’s still not done, but it’s getting there :) And since I had to change the perspective on this a bit it’s been really “fun” to figure out what goes where. Eventually there will be some kind of support for the railings too, but I want to get the staircase itself done first.
There will be a couple of lights on the walls, so even though I will do some of the “lighting” in the end I still need to decide now where the shadows will fall. At least the really deep shadows. Same with the highlight, which is visible both on the steps and the hand railing.
I’ve also taken down the saturation a bit since the other things I will add will be colorful enough :) No reason to overdo it.
And that’s it for now.
It’s way beyond bedtime and I’m cold, so a warm bed is exactly what I need right now.
More tomorrow :)
Leke’s Return – the staircase
This is going to make absolutely no sense what so ever, so excuse me for sounding stupid or something…but I’ve been painting a lost staircase most part of this evening today :D And I’m excited about it too :p
The staircase once belonged to the ruin across the road here, Scarsdale Hall, and while three rooms are installed at Philadelphia museum, the staircase is said to be stored at the same museum. However, this is denied by the museum themselves. If they deny because they’ve got no clue about it, or because they don’t want to admit it, no one knows.
And up until today I’ve only heard tales about this grand staircase and how everyone we talked to throughout the years since we moved here said that it was amazing.
I didn’t find the staircase itself, but I’ve found piccies :D
The drawing/painting I’m making of it is for the game. And it’s not identical to the actual staircase in the photos either. I’m tweaking it a bit, but other than that I’m literally placing it in the room where it once used to be. In the game, that is :p Difficult to make it materialize and actually put it back in the room on a more physical level, u know :p
The piccies are black and white (and tiny) so I’m guessing that it was made out of oak or mahogany. As far as I can tell, there’s no metal anywhere.
But after seeing how this staircase fits into the ruin, and how there was a ground floor, a landing, first floor and then top floor, the placement of all the doors and fireplaces in the ruin makes more sense too.
And now I’m babbling.
This is far from done, and I need to work a bit more on the walls of course. And the staircase itself. But it will be a nifty addition :D
